SUMMARY: The Tychovian Prosperity Sphere is a warp-capable, multi-species alliance, claiming sovereignty over twenty-six worlds in the “southern” or rimward region of the Alpha Quadrant. The ethnonymic term “Tychovian” is a reference to the polity’s socially-dominant species, the natives of the planet Tycho Epsilon VII. The Federation has known of the Prosperity Sphere’s existence for thirteen standard years, following a First Contact event by USS Potemkin (NCC-1657).

Star Trek: Prosperity — Timeline
The Tychovian Prosperity Sphere’s dominant culture is that of individualist acquisitive capitalism. Although there is a token democratic republican government in place, it is the opinion of Starfleet Intelligence that the true power within the Prosperity Sphere is a trio of semi-cooperative business cartels, each of which has near-total control over vital areas of the Prosperity Sphere’s economy. While the Prosperity Sphere has the technological capability and capacity to become a post-scarcity society, social and political controls maintain a capital-based stratified society, with artificial scarcity imposed via legal and technological controls over vital tools and resources.
The Prosperity Sphere is not a militarily-aggressive power, although they do maintain a centralized defense force and they contract with a large number of armed “private security” interest, including many Orion privateer crews and a not-insignificant number of Klingons mercenaries (this number has increased significantly following the signing of the Khitomer Accords). However, they are extremely expansionist when it comes to seeking new “clients” for their business interests. The Prosperity Sphere’s expeditionary forces have no equivalent of General Order One, or any other policy of non-interference. In the time that the Federation has known of their existence, the Prosperity Sphere has contacted three pre-warp civilizations, introduced them to advanced technology (replicators, planetary transporter grids, subspace radio communications, etc.), and then shackled those species to the Prosperity Sphere’s economy by ensuring that they are the sol providers of said technology.
It is the opinion of Starfleet Intelligence that the Tychovian Prosperity Sphere is not an existential threat to the Federation or our allies at this time; however, given the vigor of their economy and their willingness to expand their territory, it may only be a matter of time before conflict of some nature arises. Sources from within the Prosperity Sphere suggest that they currently see the Federation as a competitor for the “markets” of the southern Alpha quadrant. While they have no means of subjugating our culture by technological blackmail, and their military is not currently a match for Starfleet, Starfleet Intelligence has uncovered at least five espionage agents of the Prosperity Sphere within Federation space, two of whom were Starfleet officers. It would be imprudent, we believe, to assume that these are the only assets with which the Prosperity Sphere intends to use against the Federation.
