Flashcards

📢 Spaced repetition and active recall are proven effective strategies for learning. Here, we use flashcards to implement both techniques. The database uses the SM-2 method, which is proven in practice to generate optimal intervals which results to higher retention rates. Here, we demonstrate this by quizzing your knowledge in Nihongo and providing a platform to help you retain more. 🧠

Answer each card (or as much as you can!) in the first column (No Grading). You may click on the checkboxes (🔲) to reveal clues (Show Clue 1- number of letters; Show Clue 2 - shows vowels) and the answer (Show Answer). After answering the question, drag the card to its respective Grading. The guide on the grading is as shown in the right 🡲

<aside> 2️⃣ SPACED REPETITION

Once done with the session (it's okay if you did not go through all the flashcards, there's still tomorrow!), update the calculations to schedule the flashcards to appear on the next session. You can do this by copying the values (Highlight → Ctrl +C) in the first 4 columns (New_Grade, New_Rep, New_EF, New_Int) and pasting (Highlight → CTRL +V) them into the adjacent 4 columns (Grade, Rep, EF, Int). Finally, reset Grading, Show Clue 1, Show Clue 2, Show Answer by deleting the values (Highlight → Del) in the columns. All that is left to do now is to come back tomorrow, and answer the cards in 1️⃣ Active Recall.

<aside> ➕ ADDITIONAL FLASHCARDS

To add more flashcards, click onNew (at the end of the table), type the question in Topic/Question and the answer in Details/Answer. You can also add figures and/or diagrams for applicable questions in Figures/Diagrams. It is helpful to fill out the Category field as a guide for the type of questions and it can also be used as a filter, if you would like to focus your session on a specific category. Feel free to add more categories!

Personally, in my own learning journey, I'd start the process by creating the flashcards. This gives me an opportunity to read through the material and get familiar with the content prior to quizzing myself. For demonstration purposes, I put that step last in this page.
